Fashion Accessories: Eyelash Necklaces by Stephanie Simek use real human hair, creep us out

Ever had one of those days where you’re getting dressed and you think, "You know what this outfit needs? A pair of eyelashes that I could wear round my neck. Preferably containing real human hair."

No, me neither. Some people must have days like that, though, because artist Stephanie Simek has apparently decided that there is a market to be cornered here, and has put these necklaces into production, using real human hair. WHERE DOES SHE GET IT? Seriously, how on earth would you get your hands on enough human eyelashes to be able to produce jewellery with it? And why would you want to?

Quite apart from the fact that one of these necklaces will run the risk of making you look like a false eyelash has fallen off and landed on your sweater, I know I find the idea of accessorising with someone’s old eyelashes slightly disturbing. Am I alone in this?

  1. No, you’re not alone. They’re disgusting. Bad enough but with real hair?! They give me the heeby jeebies as we say in Scotland.

  2. I might be the lone voice of dissent here… but I’m not so sure they’re creepy. My mind extrapolates and I see sleeping eyes so it doesn’t bother me. It’s like having a print of an eye on a t-shirt.
They’re probably not real eyelashes either, just the ends of normal hair cut to size.

  3. They don’t so much creep me out but I do think they are pretty ugly. Surely its just going to look like one of your fake eyelashes has fallen off and landed on your chest?

  4. Ah, I seem to have repeated the last part fo your post, sorry Amber, thats what happens when you are supposed to be working and reading Fashion Police in a tiny pop up browser!

  5. CC – I think you’re probably right that it’ll be head hair rather than eyelashes. Thank God for that! Not that I’d particularly want to wear that round my neck either, but for some reason the eyelashes were really troubling me!

  6. eyelashes available at most drugstores are made of human hair, so she prob bout the eyelashes and incorporated them into the jewelry.
I think it’s an awesome idea not sure i would wear them, but ingenious none the less.

  7. It’s a little wierd, but I don’t know what you guys are talking about when you say disgusting…(I don’t think hair is that gross…sorry…)
    I think it’s a cool idea but I wouldn’t wear it!
