Every follower of fashion will have noticed by now that metallics have become a major trend. A trend that I, as a lover of all things shiny, have completely bought into. Metallics are a wonderful way to add a little extra oomph to any outfit. But even I have to admit that some metallic items have basically been a display of a whole lot of wrong.
It’s a bit difficult to tell from the picture, but this Christensen and Sigersen dress is, in part, composed of metallic green lace. Now, even without the metallic element, this dress is a mixture of white zigzag trim, green lace, a yellow slip, a yellow velvet belt, and pink ribbon. Uh, does anyone else see the problem here?
In keeping with the theme of metallic green, this next dress (by Diane von Furstenburg) is metallic python print. And okay, I know that fashion isn’t the most “natural” industry, but has anyone ever seen a metallic green python in real life?
And now, for the worst item yet. What’s that, you say? Even worse than metallic green python? Why, yes. Say hello to the most hideous piece of metallic clothing I’ve ever laid eyes on. Lela Rose metallic brocade pants. I honestly don’t even know what to say about these. Except – don’t ever, EVER wear them.

So basically, it’s pretty easy to go overboard with this whole metallic thing. But I’m going to leave you with some happy, pretty metallic things, just to prove that it is a wearable trend. Below, we have a Paul & Joe Maestria Lace Shift Dress with metallic thread, a Lela Rose Lurex Halter Dress that select people (read: not me) could probably pull off, and my favorite, a pair of sassy metallic red Alexander McQueen Round Toe Pumps.
