Fashion Trends: Leg Warmers

Legwarmers

The Eighties are back, my friends – back with a vengeance. Everywhere I look, I see batwing sweaters and puffball skirts, and now I’m even starting to see leggings. Yes, leggings.

I have to confess that this is actually one eighties trend I quite like – on other people. I think it’s because it reminds me of the days when I was a kid and I liked to think that one day I’d grow up to be a ballet dancer. Clearly that didn’t happen, and if I tried to wear leggings now, at my advanced age, I’d just look like one of the kids from Fame – as they are now. If you like to wear leggings, though, you’ll find the product details for these ones below. Tell me, though: would you wear them, and if so, what would you wear them with?

L-R – grey legwarmers, £5, ASOS; RSALW legwarmers, $14, American Apparel ; Button-up legwarmers, $18, Sock Dreams

My favorite spot for leggings and tights that is affordable and extremely good quality is We Love Colors. Good service and I think that this site encourages creativity like American Apparel does but at much cheaper prices. http://www.welovecolors.com I think that they have a MySpace too.

Legwarmers were everywhere in like 2003-4 but then they got really played out, I’m surprised they’ve come back again again. I see a lot of them around my school but I feel like I’m still a little burnt out on legwarmers from the last time they made a comeback.

I like the button ones A LOT. I think I’m now the wrong side of 25 to be wearing leg warmers but 2-3 years ago I was wearing them with a vengeance! My favourite outfit was a red cord skirt on which I’d appliqued flowers and sewn buttons, red, grey and black flat mary janes, black or grey legwarmers slouched over the bottom of the shoes and a black polo neck. I wore this particular outfit out to the pub on Christmas eve. It snowed, my feet got soaked and the part of the leg warmer that was under the heel of my shoes sort of disintegrated into nothingness.
That put an end to that!

I actually leg warmers quite a lot under slouchy boots. Just a bit of leg warmer peeping out of the top of the boot in a colur that matches the outfit. Today for example: Grey jumper dress, black leggings, grey legwarmers, black boots. Keeps my legs toasty warm!
