When I was a little girl, I used to do a lot of horse riding. Now, I suspect this probably doesn’t need to be said, but for the benefit of those of you who aren’t familiar with the equine world, modern riders don’t wear jodhpurs like these: they wear jodhpurs that are a lot like very thick leggings, with reinforced bits at the knee. Anyway, one year my grandparents went on holiday and came back telling me that they had found a pair of jodhpurs and had bought them for me. You can imagine my excitement … until I opened the bag and found a pair of trousers almost exactly like these (although not "sateen", obviously).
To this day, we have no idea how my grandparents managed to hunt down a pair of jodhpurs from the 1940s. What I do know, though, is that even my eleven-year-old self knew that this? Was most definitely not a good look. Oh hell, no. Who wants to make their thighs look bigger than they are, after all?
Well, some people do, apparently, because Balenciaga sent their models down the catwalk in old-fashioned jodhpurs earlier this year, and the high street was quick to jump on the bandwagon, with ASOS producing these sateen jodhpurs for £28.
My question to you: would you wear them?
