Dear Fashion Police,
I just bought a pair of skinny jeans, and am wondering what to wear with them. Can I wear trainers with them, and if so, what style would you recommend?

You should not wear any kind of trainers with your skinny jeans. In fact, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that you shouldn’t wear trainers AT ALL, ever. With anything. Well, anything other than sports clothes, obviously. This is because trainers are just for the gym. They are "sports shoes". Wear them for sports; do not wear them for any other reason.
Whew, sorry, got a bit carried away there. Can you tell I have a bit of a "thing" about trainers? On a serious note, though, trainers like the ones pictures above really shouldn’t be worn with skinny jeans, because they’re going to make your feet look huge. You’ll have little stick legs and big ol’ trainer-feet, and this is not a good look on anyone.
Skinny jeans look best with heels or a nice pair of flats. Anything even remotely chunky will make your feet look over-sized, although, with that said, they can look great with platforms, Mary-Kate Olsen style, if you think you can pull it off.
If you absolutely must wear them with trainers, go for a slim style – the kind of trainers you wear for fashion (if you’re that way inclined) rather than for actual sports.Think sneakers or tennis-style shoes rather than hi-tops and athletic styles. Maybe something like a pair of Rocket Dogs or Chuck Taylors if you’re absolutely hell-bent on this type of style.
I still say you’re better off with heels or cute flats, though.
