On Trial: Anna Sui’s newspaper print dress

annasuinewspaerdress On Trial: Anna Suis newspaper print dress

I don’t think I’d have a whole lotta love for Anna Sui’s newspaper print dress  even if we were to take the nature of the print out of the equation – that frilly neck and pussy bow is way too "frou frou" for my simple tastes – but  let’s face it, it’s not helping much, is it?  A dress that people can read – or that people might want to wrap their fish and chips in – isn’t my idea of fun, but then again, I don’t hate it enough to make it a Crime of Fashion, so I’ve decided to throw caution to winds and put it up On Trial. What do you think? Is it fun and fabulous, or do you prefer to get your reading material from actual newspapers?

Sienna Miller still working that ‘quirky’ fashion sense of hers…

sienna miller Sienna Miller still working that quirky fashion sense of hers...

I know this is far from the worst outfit we’ve seen Sienna wear, but is it just me, or does she look like a drag queen trying to do "casual" here? What’s with the feather boa? Why does she keep making her hair stick right out the top of her head, like an antenna, lately? And can we blame her for the current "high top trainers" craze, like we blamed her for Boho? Because I have issues with the high topped trainers. I say we send them back to 80s New York, where they belong – who’s with me?

On Trial: Ashely Olsen in short skinny jeans and high, high platform shoes

ashley olsen On Trial: Ashely Olsen in short skinny jeans and high, high platform shoesI love the Olsens. Love them. I particularly love the way that, no matter what they wear, they always look totally comfortable and confident – they wear their clothes, rather than allowing the clothes to wear them, which is one of the secrets of good style, I think.

I’m not quite sure what to think about this ensemble of Ashely’s though. I’ve been loving all of the flood-length jeans that’ve been around this summer, but I tend to think jeans this short look better with flats rather than huge platforms like these. Then again, any longer and they’d possibly just make her feet look huge in comparison to the rest of her (or even more huge, rather).

So, what’s the verdict, fashion fans?

Crime of Fashion: Tie up ballet peds – “footie socks” with a bow

footiesocks Crime of Fashion: Tie up ballet peds footie socks with a bow

OK, would someone care to explain this to me? Hello? Someone? Anyone? I mean, I know there has to be a reasonable explanation why you’d want to buy yourself a pair of "footie socks" (and is it just me, or does that phrase make you cringe, too?) with bows at the ankles, but I’m darned if I know what it is. Bear in mind that these aren’t cotton socks – no, they’re actually nylon, like tights. And while I can almost  understand why people wear those little "pop sock" things that are designed to look like you have bare feet in your shoes (I’m not saying I’m down with them, you understand, just that I can see why people might think they were a good idea), I have absolutely no idea why you’d want to draw attention to your pop socks by putting an ankle strap on them, can you?

Fabulously Fashionable: Pregnant Nicole Ritchie does 60s chic

nicoleritchie Fabulously Fashionable: Pregnant Nicole Ritchie does 60s chic

I’ve always been a fan of Nicole Ritchie’s style, but seriously, I don’t think she’s ever looked as good as she does now she’s pregnant. Which just goes to show that getting knocked up and booking in some jail time isn’t always such a bad thing, kids!*

I’m a sucker for the sixties, and while I think only the very slim (despite being pregnant, Nicole still qualifies) can usually get away with this kind of shift dress, Nic’s totally rocking it with her black Mary Janes and trademark sunnies. Even so, copy her style, folks, not her crimes…

* Joking. Just in case you didn’t realise.

Wanted! Miu Miu-esque jewelled t-bar sandals by River Island

riverislandshoes Wanted! Miu Miu esque jewelled t bar sandals by River Island

I know we’ve already mentioned these shoes, in the post on skinny jeans, but I figured they were just way too pretty not to have a post of their very own. I mean, seriously, are these hot or are they… not? I actually got to see them in the flesh this weekend, and the picture doesn’t really do them justice: in real life they’re super-sparkly and so, so desirable. I think someone at River Island is a bit Miu Miu fan, don’t you?

(Oh, and even although I do, very much "love this", the little heart is all River Island’s own. Just sayin’)

Crime of Fashion: Striped dress by What Goes Around Comes Around

crimeoffashion Crime of Fashion: Striped dress by What Goes Around Comes Around

I’m trying really hard to imagine what kind of event you might wear a dress like this to, but I’m coming up with nothing, here folks. I would say "bed", but I’m guessing most people under the age of 70 probably don’t go in much for the "Wee Willie Winkie" bedtime look, do they? All this model needs is a bed cap and a tall candle and she’ll be ready to step right back into the Grimm fairytale she looks like she just stepped out of. What’s even more weird about this, though, is that the rest of the What Goes Around Comes Around line is actually pretty cute – then there’s this. It’s currently reduced from $160 to $48. I wonder why?
