They’re just not going away, are they? No matter how many times we call them out as the crimes of fashion they undoubtedly are, the "Mom jeans" just refuse to die. Lookit these Earnest Sewn numbers, for instance - is it just me, or do these create a very strange shape indeed? Do people really want to look like their pelvis is the size of a small country? For real?! It seems that they do. Take, for instance, this comment we received recently on a post I wrote last September (yes! They’ve been around for almost a year now! Lord help us!) about Cheap Monday’s high waist jeans. "Ugly jeans are low-riders," writes FlaviaR. "They are GUARANTEED to make *anyone* look pregnant." No!
Flavia says the high waisters are flattering, while hipster styles are "guaranteed" to make you look pregnant. I say she’s wrong. Well, I’ve been wearing low-riders for most of my adult life, and no one’s asked me when I’m due yet. What do you think?
They look semi-silly on the model, so they’d look ridiculous on “normally” shaped people.
I completely agree. High-waisted jeans are the worst. Fashion designer all over the world may keep telling us otherwise but I won’t listen. If I have the choice between a pair of jeans that make the teeny-tiniest post pasta bulge look like a huge belly and a pair which sits nicely on the hips, not too high and not too low and just makes me look (and feel) sexy, what do I go for? Exactly.

I have hips – not gigantic, but I had a baby, so there are hips. And, I have a long, relatively small waist and short legs. So, low rise jeans made me look like a garden gnome. NOT attractive at all…

ok… it may be because I admire and sport vintage clothing, but I’m all in favor for the high waist. I’ve been looking for a slender, high waist, brown skirt for a long time to match my 60′s high waist sweater. This photo is a horrible example of what the high waist can pull off.
i will, however, say that i feel pregnant in some of those low jeans…
They’re definitely not for me with my short torso, long legs combination but I think all styles of jeans (yes, including this one) should be available for women who might prefer one style over another.
Bleh. There are very few people I know who can pull them off and make them look “hip.” Otherwise, they just make a weird lump in the middle of your shirt, that is…unless you actually tuck your shirt IN, which may be the intention, but that still makes me cringe.
It just depends on what looks good on your body. People should not try to follow trends; rather, we should pick pieces that flatter our bodies the most. Many women look horrible in low rise jeans (muffin top syndrome, accentuates a flat ass, a big gap in the back if you do have a big butt…) and the solution for all those flaws I’ve mentioned are higher rise jeans. Maybe not everyone can pull off the super high waist like that in the picture, but for many others, it may be very flattering.
I grew up int he 70′s with high waist jeans. I have ample hips and a small waist and have had kids. When I wear lowrise jeans the loose skin has nowhere to go and I have no waist. At least in hiwaist jeans my jiggle is controlled and my little waist looks good. My husband likes th look of the mommy jeans-but never with pleats!!
Ugh, I think the high-waisted look only works on jeans that have a skinny leg. These just look lazy!
