No, not Ashley - Ashlee. And actually, we’re going to let Ash off here because she, at least, has an excuse for this heinous plaid jacket – she’s doing some kind of promotion for Sketchers. Mary Kate, on the other hand – oh, Mary Kate, what happened here? I mean, I have nightmares in which I’m out dressed like this – no pants, ugly workman’s shirt, straggly hair. MK, I know we sometimes use this as a figure of speech, but you literally look like you’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards here. A hedge that stole your pants.
Well, praise be. We’ve had ol’ Sienna here in fashion jail for God knows how long: those skanky, scruffy dresses, the leggings, that awful print dress…GOD. But now – well, lookit how pretty she looks! Her Marchesa "dress" is actually a top – it’s from the Spring/Summer ’07 collection, and was worn by Marchesa’s model with a pair of skinny pants underneath. Leave it to Sienna to be different, though, and actually? I think she’s getting away with it. Bravo, Ms Miller. Now, let’s put all that "boho" unpleasantness behind us, will we?
Next does designer – who woulda thunk it? We’re used to thinking of Next as the place to buy boring old work suits and inoffensive leisure wear, and suddenly they go all Gucci on us. I’m seriously tempted by the dress on the right – I mean, obviously I’d be tempted by the Gucci version, on the left too, but I bet it’s several hundred pounds more expensive than Next’s copy, which is a mere £36.99. So, should I get it? Decisions, decisions…
One tip, though? If you do decide to buy either version of this dress, do us a favour and give the "bright purple socks over dark purple tights" look a miss, yes? Top marks to Next for accessorising this one far more successfully than Gucci have managed. Shame on you, you so-called Italian fashion masters!
I’m a sucker for a bow. Sorry, but I am. Waist bows, like this one make your waist look waspish, your hips look curvier and are just generally flattering and pretty. Wallis have always been very good at doing “classy” and “elegant”, and this dress is a case in point. I also love the black and gold combination, although I have to say that because I have dress a lot like this one tucked away in a wardrobe somewhere.
Perfect for Christmas parties (although be careful you’re not mistaken for the gift…) – now all you need is some gold shoes to match.
Yesterday we were lusting after Lily Cole’s gorgeous floral print Gharani Strok filofax, and today we’ve found a phone to match. Cath Kidston has brought her signature shabby chic style to this Nokia cellphone. Two different models (the 6111 and the 6230i) have been Kidstoned, and there are three different floral prints to choose from. "It’s important that your mobile phone functions well and is easy to use but there is no reason why it can’t look gorgeous as well." A woman after our own hearts… Get them at the Carphone Warehouse.
GOD. I really wish I hadn’t seen this Moschino Jeans coat, and you know why? Well, it’s one of those "price on request" jobs, which roughly translates as "If you have to ask, you can’t afford". Damn. It was love at first sight, though, especially given that I’m currently sitting here wearing all my clothes at the same time, in a pathetic attempt to ward off the cold. The saving grace with this one? Well, it’s shearling, and I’m not quite sure how I feel about that. I’m one of those people who wears leather but not fur, and who’d really like to be vegetarian, but would probably starve to death if she even tried. So could I wear shearling? Well, luckily for me, it doesn’t seem like I’m going to the chance to find out….
I crave kimonos right now. Embarrassing admission coming up: I particularly crave them having seen Elle from Neighbours wear them with ever-more frequency. Oh, the shame… This is a style, though, that will take you everywhere: dress it up with pumps and wear it to work, dress it up even more with strappy sandals and a sparkly evening bag and you’ve got the perfect party dress, or dress it down over jeans or leggings for an everyday look. Love it. If only this one wasn’t £240…
Sorry, sorry… I don’t want to think about Christmas either, but that’s just too bad, because it seems that the retailers want to make me. And if I have to think about it, then you do too. Sorry. With that said, I have stumbled across the perfect Christmas gifts for the handbag and shoe lovers in your lives (or even for yourselves…). These calenders are page-a-day numbers, so every morning you get to feast your eyes on a new pair of shoes of fabulous handbag. Yes, I know they kinda make The Fashion Police a little bit redundant (Although looks like Manoloo Blahnik’s already done that), but hey: pretty shoes and handbags! They’re £7.79 each from Amazon.
