Beauty Product Review: Blinc ‘Kiss Me’ Mascara

I’m getting married in just under six months time (sorry, I just like saying that…) so I’ve been desperately hunting for a mascara that won’t budge, no matter how much weeping and wailing I do. (Don’t worry, I want to get married, I just have a horrible feeling  that I’m going to cry like a waterfall throughout the whole thing. Ah well). Blinc’s ‘Kiss Me’ is certainly a good bet for that…

How It Works:
Blinc’s tagline is "don’t just paint your lashes – tube them", and that’s exactly what this mascara does. Instead of coating your eyelashes with paint, like pretty much every mascara known to man, it forms tiny tubes around them – no, I kid you not. This is no gimmick, either: when you come to remove your eye makeup in the evening, the little tubes will come off in your hand. The theory behind this is a simple one: if it’s not paint, then it can’t run. Voila! Perfect, smudge-free, run-free mascara.

Despite being unlike any other mascara I’ve tried, the application is exactly the same. The mascara wand was a little chunky for me, but nothing you can’t work with.

You’d think something designed to be completely water and smudge proof would be all hell to get off, but actually, the reverse is opposite. Just take a damp cloth and some warm water and gently press down on your lashes. Bingo, tubes comes off, and you’ll see them lying there in your hand. Pretty strange at first, but you soon get used to it, and, as cynical as I was about the "easy removal" claim, I have to admit that Blinc came off every bit as easily as they said it would.

As I said, I was a cynic. But I tried everything, from splashing my face with water to rubbing my eyes – HARD – with my hand, and Blinc really didn’t budge. The downside to this? Well, I like my eyelashes curly. To get them curly, I use a heated eyelash curler (Oh, OK, it’s not a heated eyelash curler, it’s just a regular old eyelash curler which I heat up with my hairdryer. My guilty secret it out.) before applying my mascara. Do this with other mascaras, and the lashes will generally keep their curl. WIth Blinc, however, the curl dropped right out, almost instantly. I don’t know whether it’s the "tubes" that form on the lashes weighing them down, or whether it’s just something to do with the formula itself, but it left me with perfectly straight eyelashes, that’s for sure.

Fashion Police Verdict: 6/10
If your main concern is finding a mascara that won’t budge, then this is your baby, and if that’s your only criteria, then I’d give this one a perfect 10. I, unfortunately, am a pretty demanding creature, and like my mascara to lengthen, curl and volumise as well as refusing to smudge. So no, I don’t ask for much, then. Not my perfect wedding-day mascara, then, unfortunately, but a good buy if you don’t mind straight lashes.
